Dave Asprey on Infrared Sauna

Dave Asprey Sauna
Dave Asprey is a leading figure in bio-hacking, especially after the release of his book Super Human and the popularization of his Bulletproof Coffee, he is leading the vanguard of longevity and health biohacking.
While Dave is a proponent of many ways get ourselves healthy and keep healthy into old age there are few things he is as vocal about as sauna use. He is specifically adamant about the benefits of infrared sauna use in particular.
“Sweating does more than cool you off. It also helps you get rid of both heavy metals and xenobiotics – foreign compounds like plastics and petrochemicals – in small but significant amounts. A 2012 review of 50 studies found that sweating can remove lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury, especially in people with high heavy metal toxicity. Another study put participants in both traditional and infrared saunas and found similar results. Sweating also eliminates hormone-disrupting BPA, which accumulates in your fat cells.”
Dave goes on to say that while there is mixed evidence which kind of sauna is best for you he prefers Infrared for the following reasons.
- More effective at lower temperatures than traditional saunas.
- Energy efficiency.
- Lower Price
He recommends going for a full spectrum infrared sauna including near infrared, mid infrared, and far infrared for the following benefits. (taken from his blog)
Far Infrared:
- detoxification
- lowered blood pressure
- relaxation
Mid Infrared:
- improved circulation
- weight loss
- pain relief
Near infrared:
- cell health/immunity
- wound healing
- anti-aging
- oxygenation of tissues
