The co-founder and current CEO of Twitter has a reputation for being a bit of a health and wellness nut.  The demands of running one of Silicon Valley’s biggest companies is a demanding job and Jack has found a number of tools to help keep him at the top of his game mentally and physically.  Vipassana meditation, stoicism, intermittent fasting, and of course sauna. Not only is he a sauna user, but he normally does three sauna sessions a day.

He has been an avid sauna user for the past three years, often combining it with cold baths before bed.  He was a guest on Ben Greenfeild’s podcast and discussed what sauna use has done for his life.

“I feel a lot more energized, I feel a lot cleaner.” – Jack Dorsey on his sauna use

His Routine

“The thing [that] has had probably the largest impact in terms of how I feel, but also mental clarity, is sauna and cold,” He says his routine is to first sit in his barrel sauna for 15 minutes before hopping into an ice bath for three minutes.  He then repeats this process two more times.“I could wrap that whole thing up in about an hour, so I love that,” he said.

In addition to the barrel sauna Dorsey uses a low EMF infrared sauna that he believes allows him to sweat more at a lower temperature.  He tends to use the infrared sauna throughout the week while using the traditional sauna to relax.

Sauna Mental Benefits

There has been a lot of research on the mental benefits of the sauna as well as a number of general benefits attributed to sauna use.  Jack Dorsey’s comment about feeling more energized after a sauna session is more than just power of suggestion.  Sauna use has been shown to aid our mental state by lifting our moods and helping with our anxieties in a similar way to exercise.  Read the below article for more information.
